Where to start

No route here has been checked yet; the pages name the nearest station. Takayama on the Takayama Main Line serves Takayama Old Town and Hida Folk Village, and Gero, on the same line, Gero Onsen; Sekigahara serves Sekigahara Battlefield, Gujō-Hachiman on the Etsumi-Nan Line Gujo Hachiman, Ōgaki Ōgaki Castle, and Gifu on the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line Yanagase. Shirakawa-go's page says no public-transport route has been checked, so plan that journey on the map.

Seasons and closures

The Nagara River Cormorant Fishing season runs each year from 11 May to 15 October, except on days of high water and on the night of the harvest moon. Nangū Taisha holds its main festival every year on 25 May. Shirakawa-go's page notes that seasonal access has not been checked.
