Our guide
Mount Yari, 3,180 m high, is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. It stands in the southern part of the Hida Mountains (the Northern Alps), on the border of Ōmachi and Matsumoto in Nagano and Takayama in Gifu. The priest Banryū (1786–1840) founded a temple there. It is also where Japan's longest river begins: the Shinano River starts here as the Azusa River.
This is a high mountain for experienced hikers. We have not checked routes, huts or conditions, so check local information and the weather before you go.
