This is a free, independent travel guide. It sells nothing and takes no bookings, and it has no commercial relationship with any of the places listed. Its one source of income is the hotel-booking links described below.
Affiliate Disclosure
The hotel links are affiliate links to Agoda: if you book through one, Agoda pays us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and which places appear here is not decided by it — the spots were chosen before any of it, and nobody pays to be listed. The pages carrying such a link say so at the top.
Privacy Policy
You can read every page of this site without giving us anything. Personal data is collected only when you choose to send it, and only in these two places:
- Reviews — the name you type, your rating and text, and any photo you attach. No email address is asked for.
- The contact form — your name, email address and message.
We use it to publish your review, or to answer you. Nothing is sold, rented, or used for advertising. Email addresses are never shown on the site.
To keep out spam we also store a one-way hash of your IP address — enough to count submissions, not enough to recover the address itself. The language you are reading is part of the address, not something we remember about you.
The data is held on this site's hosting, on servers in Japan, for as long as the review or enquiry is useful.
You can ask to see, correct or delete anything you have sent us. Use the contact form and say which review or message it concerns.
Cookies and visitor statistics
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people reach. It stores cookies named _ga in your browser to tell one visit from the next, and sends Google your page addresses, approximate location, browser and device. Google shortens your IP address and we never see it. We use this only to decide which pages to improve; nothing is used for advertising and nothing identifies you by name.
If you are in the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, none of this is stored on your device unless you allow it: the page asks before anything is written, the question can be answered either way, and your answer is remembered in your own browser. Until then Google receives only a count with no cookie behind it.
You can switch this off with Google's opt-out add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser — the site works exactly the same either way. Google's privacy policy explains what Google does with the data.
Apart from these statistics cookies, the site stores nothing in your browser and carries no advertising trackers.
Accuracy
Opening hours, admission fees and routes are shown only for places where we checked them against an official source, with the date we checked; elsewhere the page says they have not been checked. Station distances are worked out from map positions, and descriptions come from Wikipedia rather than a visit. Even checked details change, so treat everything here as a starting point and confirm with the official source before you travel. We cannot accept responsibility for a trip that goes wrong because a detail here was out of date.
Reviews are written by visitors and reflect their own experience, not ours. Links to other sites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for what they contain.
Photos and text
Spot descriptions come from Wikipedia and are used under CC BY-SA. Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons, and each is used under its own licence — CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0, public domain and others — as shown in the photo credits under each gallery, with the title, author, licence and a link to the file. Photos are shown resized. If you hold the rights to an image here and want it removed or credited differently, tell us and we will act on it.
Where a description is adapted or translated from Wikipedia, that description is itself available under the same licence, CC BY-SA 4.0 — take it, change it, reuse it, on the same terms. The layout, the code and text written for this site from other sources are not.
