Planning a trip to Ishikawa

How the spots group

Kanazawa's spots are close together: Kenrokuen Garden is 0.1 km from Seisonkaku in a straight line and 0.4 km from both Kanazawa Castle and the 21st Century Museum; from the castle, Omicho Market and the Nagamachi Samurai District are 0.8 km, the Higashi Chaya District 1.1 km and Myoryuji 1.4 km. Wakura Onsen, at the base of the Noto Peninsula, and Nanao Castle are in Nanao; Chirihama Beach Driveway is in Hakui and Wajima Morning Market in Wajima, about 95 km from Kenrokuen. Yamanaka Onsen is in Kaga and Awazu Onsen in Komatsu.

Where to start

The one checked route is to Wakura Onsen: the JR limited express Noto Kagaribi from Kanazawa to Wakuraonsen Station, with four through trains a day as of March 2026. Other pages name the nearest station: Nomachi on the Hokuriku Railroad Ishikawa Line for Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, the 21st Century Museum, the Nagamachi Samurai District and Myoryuji; Hokutetsu-Kanazawa for Omicho Market and the Higashi Chaya District; Kanazawa on the Hokuriku Shinkansen for Oyama Shrine; and Hakui on the Nanao Line for Chirihama Beach Driveway.

Seasons and closures

Kenrokuen Garden is admired in every season, winter above all; it opens later in winter, and in the cherry-blossom and autumn-leaf seasons it has evening openings with illumination. In winter the earthen walls of the Nagamachi Samurai District are wrapped in straw matting against snow and frost. Before planning a visit, note that the site of the Wajima Morning Market was lost in the fire after the Noto Peninsula earthquake of 1 January 2024. Festivals: Keta Taisha on 3 April, Toyokuni Shrine on 2 May and Shirayama Hime Shrine on 6 May.
