The Nagamachi samurai district in Kanazawa is where the houses of upper- and middle-ranking retainers of the Kaga Domain stand side by side. Its earthen walls and stone-paved lanes keep the feel of the feudal era, and in winter the walls are wrapped in straw matting to protect them from snow and frost.
It is close to the centre: 21st Century Museum and Kanazawa Castle are each about 800 m away in a straight line, and Myoryuji about 1 km. Nomachi Station on the Hokuriku Railroad Ishikawa Line is about 1.2 km off.
