Our guide
Nata-dera in the city of Komatsu, Ishikawa, is a temple of the Kōyasan Shingon school whose main image, a Thousand-armed Kannon, is a hidden image. By tradition it is linked with the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, though it is not one of the numbered temples. The gardens of its kuri (priests' quarters) are a Place of Scenic Beauty, and the whole precinct has a separate Scenic Beauty designation as part of the “Landscape of Oku no Hosomichi”.
Awazu Onsen is about 3 km away. We have not checked opening hours, fees or a public-transport route.

What this place is
Nata-dera (那谷寺) is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It belongs to the Kōyasan Shingon-shū sect of Japanese Buddhism and its honzon (primary image) is a hibutsu hidden statue of Senjū Kannon. The temple is connected by tradition to the 33-temple Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage route, but is not a numbered temple on that pilgrimage. The gardens of the Kuri are designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, and the entire precincts are covered by a separate National Place of Scenic Beauty designation as a component of the "Landscape of Oku no Hosomichi".
