The checked routes: Lake Tazawa by local bus from JR Tazawako Station on the Akita Shinkansen, and Lake Towada by the JR bus from Aomori, Shin-Aomori and Hachinohe stations. Other pages name the nearest station: Kakunodate for Kakunodate Samurai District, Akita on the Ōu Main Line for Senshu Park and the Akita Museum of Art, Yokote for the Yokote Snow Festival site, Tsuchizaki for Minato Castle, and Higashi-Ōdate on the Hanawa Line for the Akita Inu Preservation Society. The Oga Peninsula page says no public-transport route has been checked.

Seasons and closures

The Yokote Snow Festival is held every February: as a trial from 2026 to 2029 the kamakura snow huts are on the second Friday and Saturday of February, and the bonden offering is on 16–17 February. The Oga Peninsula is famous for the Namahage festival, though we have not checked its dates. Koshiō Shrine holds its annual festival on 8 May. The bus to Lake Towada has been suspended in winter.
