Akita Omoriyama Zoo, nicknamed “Milve”, is a municipal zoo in the city of Akita. It covers 15 hectares with 114 species and is accredited by the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Modelled on Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido, it has enclosures designed to resemble the animals' natural habitats and “action exhibits” that encourage the animals to be active, especially at feeding time.
Araya Station on the Uetsu Main Line is about 1.1 km away in a straight line, and Omono River about 2.6 km. We have not checked opening hours or fees.

What this place is
The Akita Omoriyama Zoo (秋田市大森山動物園, Akitashi Omoriyama dōbutsuen), also known as “Milve”, is a municipal zoo in the city of Akita, Akita Prefecture, Japan. It opened on its present site on 1 September 1973, succeeding a children's zoo started in Senshū Park in 1950. The zoo covers 15 hectares, with 114 species on display. It is accredited by the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA). The zoo is modeled after Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido with holding areas designed to mimic the animal’s natural habitat, and incorporating “action exhibits” where animal activity is encouraged, particularly during feeding time.
