Fujiyoshida, on the northern slopes of Mount Fuji, is the old gateway town of the Yoshida-guchi trail — today's Yoshida Route, the only one of the four official climbing routes that starts on the Yamanashi side. A document from 1200 already names the Yoshida trail as a way up the mountain. Since buses began running to the fifth stations in the mid-Shōwa period, most climbers start from there instead, so the town is now the old starting point rather than the usual one.
Gekkōji Station on the Fujikyu Line is about 1.1 km away in a straight line. Nearby are Chureito Pagoda (about 1.6 km), Fuji-Q Highland (2.6 km) and Oshino Hakkai (3.8 km).
