Tsukiji Outer Market (築地場外市場) is a shopping district in Tsukiji 4- and 6-chōme, Chūō, Tokyo, between the site of the former Tsukiji wholesale market and the Tsukiji 4-chōme crossing. It grew up around the wholesale market, selling to buyers from restaurants and shops, and has long drawn ordinary shoppers and tourists as well. When the wholesale market moved to Toyosu in October 2018, the outer market stayed and kept its name: about 460 shops and restaurants, mainly for seafood, carry on. In the same month Chūō City opened Tsukiji Uogashi, a building with about 60 fresh-food stalls, to keep the area lively. Prices are set with trade buyers in mind, so do not expect to haggle.
