Our guide

teamLab Planets TOKYO is a digital art museum in Toyosu, made by the art collective teamLab with DMM.com, and it bills itself as “a museum where you walk through water”: in the Water area you go barefoot through huge immersive installations. It opened on 7 July 2018, grew out of a 2016 summer exhibition in Odaiba, and was first meant to close in 2020; it has now been extended to the end of 2027. A Garden area with floating orchids and a moss garden of glowing egg-shaped sculptures was added in 2021, and in January 2025 the Forest area made the site half as big again, so there are now Water, Garden, Forest and Open-Air areas.

It is popular: 2.5 million visitors in a single year, which Guinness World Records recognised as the most for a museum dedicated to one art group. Shin-Toyosu Station is about 50 m away. Tsukiji Outer Market (about 2.3 km in a straight line) and Odaiba (2.5 km) are the obvious neighbours.

What this place is

teamLab Planets TOKYO (チームラボプラネッツ TOKYO DMM) is a digital art museum in Toyosu 6-chōme, Kōtō, Tokyo, set up by teamLab and DMM.com. It grew out of an exhibition held in Odaiba in the summer of 2016 and opened in Shin-Toyosu on 7 July 2018; first planned to run until autumn 2020, it has been extended to the end of 2027. Its huge immersive installations are billed as "a museum where you walk through water": in the Water area visitors go barefoot. A Garden area with a garden of floating orchids and a moss garden of glowing egg-shaped sculptures was added in 2021, and in January 2025 the site grew by half with the Forest area, so the museum now has Water, Garden, Forest and Open-Air areas. From April 2023 to March 2024 it had 2,504,264 visitors, which Guinness World Records recognised as the most visited museum dedicated to a single art group.
