Our guide
Mount Tsurugi, in eastern Toyama, is one of the highest peaks of the Hida Mountains at 2,999 m and one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. It is called “the most dangerous mountain” that can be climbed, has several long routes of world class, and is recognised in Japan as the leading mountaineering peak in winter. The first modern ascent was made in 1907 by Yoshitarō Shibasaki and Ikuta Nobu — and at the summit they found a rusted iron sword and staff, left by someone before them.
This is a mountain for experienced climbers. We have not checked routes, huts or conditions, so check local information and the weather carefully before you go.
