Our guide

Dōtonbori is one of Osaka's main tourist and nightlife areas, running along the Dōtonbori canal from Dōtonboribashi Bridge to Nipponbashi Bridge in Namba. It was once a theatre district; today it is known for its eccentric atmosphere and its huge illuminated signboards, above all the Glico sign of a runner crossing the finishing line, which people in Japan often treat as a symbol of Osaka itself.

It is easy to reach: Exit 14 of Namba Station and Exit 2 of Nippombashi Station both open straight onto the area, and from Kansai Airport the Nankai Rapi:t reaches Nankai Namba in about 35 minutes.

The neighbourhood rewards a wander. Amerikamura is about 0.5 km away in a straight line, Kuromon Market 0.6 km and Shinsekai & Tsutenkaku 1.8 km, and Osaka Castle is about 3.1 km off.
