Our guide

Yanagawa, in the southwest of Fukuoka Prefecture, is called the city of water for its canals, the horiwari, which run through it in every direction and were first laid out around Yanagawa Castle. Taking a boat along them is the town's best-known experience, together with eel steamed in a lacquered box (seiro-mushi) and Ohana, the villa and garden of the Tachibana family, the former lords.

Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station on the Tenjin Ōmuta Line is about 1.3 km away in a straight line. We have not checked boat times or fares, so look at the operators' information before you go.
