Our guide

Suitengū in Kurume, Fukuoka, is the head shrine of all the Suitengū shrines in Japan. It is dedicated to four deities: Amenominakanushi, Emperor Antoku, Kenreimon-in and Nii-no-Ama. “Suiten” is the Japanese name of Varuna, one of the Hindu deities whose worship came to Japan with Buddhism; when shrines and temples were officially separated, Suiten shrines identified their deity as Amenominakanushi.

Kurume Station is about 500 m away in a straight line, and Kurume Castle about 1.4 km.
