Our guide
Naramachi is a historic district on the south-east side of central Nara, where many townhouses from the Edo period onwards line narrow streets. Used more broadly, the name also takes in Nara Kitamachi, Takabatake and Kyōbate–Kidera; of all this, 49.3 hectares centred on the former precincts of Gangō-ji are designated by the city as the Naramachi urban landscape district.
It makes an easy walk from the city's main sights: Kofuku-ji is about 600 m away in a straight line and Nara Park about 1.4 km. Kintetsu Nara Station is about 750 m off.
