Our guide

Mount Miwa, also called Mount Mimoro, in the city of Sakurai, Nara, has been an important religious mountain since Japan's early history and is a holy site of Shinto. The whole mountain is considered sacred, and it is home to one of the earliest Shinto shrines, Ōmiwa Shrine. Several burial mounds of the Kofun period lie around it. Its kami is generally said to be Ōmononushi, a rain god, often linked with Ōkuninushi — though the Nihon Shoki notes some uncertainty about naming the mountain's chief kami.

Hashihaka Kofun is about 2.4 km from the point this page is mapped to, and Miwa Station on the Sakurai Line about 1.9 km. We have not checked paths or rules on the mountain, so look for local information before you go.
