Our guide

Mōtsū-ji is a Tendai temple in Hiraizumi, and the name also covers the historic ground around it: the ruins of two older temples, Enryū-ji and Kashō-ji, set in a Pure Land garden. The temple buildings standing today date from the eighteenth century and have no connection with the ancient ones whose ruins are here. Since 2011 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historic Monuments and Sites of Hiraizumi”.

Hiraizumi Station is about 900 m away in a straight line. The rest of Hiraizumi's heritage is close: Kinkeizan is about 0.4 km away, Takadachi Gikeido 1.2 km and Chuson-ji Temple 1.6 km. We have not checked opening hours or fees.
