Our guide

Inuyama Castle stands above the Kiso River, which forms the border between Aichi and Gifu, and its keep is the real thing: one of only twelve pre-modern keeps still standing in Japan, like those at Matsumoto Castle and Hikone Castle. It is thought to be one of the oldest of them all, though Maruoka Castle makes the same claim. It is a hirayama-style castle, and the site has been a National Historic Site since 2018.

Last entry is at 16:30, and entry may be limited when it is crowded. Inuyama-Yūen Station on the Meitetsu Inuyama Line is about 750 m away in a straight line. Jo-an is only about 0.3 km from the castle.
