Our guide
Fujinomiya, a city in eastern Shizuoka with Mount Fuji rising to the north, is the southern gateway to the mountain and has the Fujinomiya trail to the summit. It grew as the shrine town of Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha, mapped to the same point as this page, and several parts of the World Heritage Site “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration” are here: the Hongū, Yamamiya and Murayama Sengen shrines, the Hitoana Fuji-kō remains and Shiraito Falls.
Mount Fuji can be seen clearly from around the city centre. To the north lie the Asagiri Plateau, Shiraito and Otodome Falls, and Lake Tanuki, known for “Diamond Fuji”, when the sun sits on the summit.
Nishi-Fujinomiya Station on the Minobu Line is about 700 m away in a straight line. We have not checked buses to the sights further north.
