Our guide

The Echigo-Tsumari Art Field is the setting of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, an international contemporary art festival held every three years across six areas of Niigata known for heavy snow: Tokamachi, Kawanishi, Nakasato, Matsushiro, Matsunoyama and Tsunan. It was started by the Tokyo gallery Art Front Gallery and is directed by Fram Kitagawa. First held in 2000, it has become one of Japan's largest art festivals; the 2021 edition was postponed to 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The point this page is mapped to is about 600 m from Tōkamachi Station on the Iiyama Line and about 500 m from Tōkamachi City Museum. We have not checked the next festival dates or which works can be seen outside festival years.
