Chikubu Island is a small island in the northern part of Lake Biwa, part of the city of Nagahama, Shiga. It has been known since ancient times for the beauty of its scenery and for its small shrine and Buddhist temples, and it is both a Place of Scenic Beauty and a Historic Site.
Tsukubusuma Shrine is about 300 m from the point this page is mapped to. We have not checked boats to the island, so look for local information before you go.

What this place is
Chikubu (竹生島, Chikubushima) is a small island in the northern part of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, in the Kansai region of Japan. It has been known since ancient times for the beauty of its scenery and for its small Shinto shrine and Buddhist temples. Administratively, the island is part of the city of Nagahama, Shiga. The island is both a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and Historic Site.
