Our guide

Akiyoshi-dō is one of the largest limestone caves in Japan, 100 to 200 m beneath the Akiyoshi Plateau in eastern Mine, Yamaguchi. Visitors follow a route about 1 km long, and an underground river runs about the same distance from Kotogafuchi, deep inside, to the entrance; surveys have traced the cave for 10,300 m in all. It became a Natural Monument in 1922 and a Special Natural Monument in 1952, and lies within Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park.

The plateau above has its own page, Akiyoshi plateau, about 1.7 km away in a straight line. We have not checked opening hours, fees or a public-transport route.
