Our guide

Hama-rikyū Gardens, at the mouth of the Sumida River in Chūō City, is a metropolitan garden laid out on the site of a 17th-century villa of the ruling Tokugawa family; it opened to the public on 1 April 1946. Its 250,216 m² include Shioiri-no-ike, a tidal pond, and the garden is ringed by a seawater moat fed from Tokyo Bay. A teahouse in the middle of the pond, reached by two bridges, serves matcha and Japanese sweets in tea-ceremony style. There are also a peony garden, a plum grove and fields of seasonal flowers, and falconry and aikido are demonstrated at New Year.

Shiodome Station is about 450 m away in a straight line, and Tsukiji Outer Market about 600 m. We have not checked opening hours or fees.
