Admission Admission depends on the exhibition. The 2026 exhibition on Uesugi Yozan and schools in Yonezawa (September 19–November 23) combines temporary and permanent displays: adults ¥800, high-school/university students ¥300, elementary/junior-high students free. Groups of 20 or more: ¥640/¥240/free.

Opening hours Museum: 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. Closed the fourth Wednesday in April–November; Mondays in December–March (next weekday if a holiday); December 27–January 1. Additional closures apply; check the exhibition schedule.

Our guide

The Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum opened in 2001 in the former grounds of Yonezawa Castle, Yamagata. Its collection of some 18,800 objects includes two National Treasures: the screens of Scenes In and Around the Capital by Kanō Eitoku, and the Uesugi family documents.

Yonezawa Castle Ruins and Uesugi Shrine are each about 300 m away, and Minami-Yonezawa Station about 1.3 km in a straight line. We have not checked opening hours, fees or when the National Treasures are on display.
