Our guide

Mannō Pond, in the town of Mannō, Kagawa, is a man-made irrigation reservoir holding 15.4 million tons of water, roughly shaped like a human hand. Around it is a forest of Japanese red pine, sawtooth oak and konara oak, home to 75 species of birds, among them goshawks and sparrowhawks, and 12 species of wild mammals such as the Japanese squirrel. Because the habitat matters, Kagawa Prefecture has designated 321 hectares as a wildlife sanctuary.
