Our guide

Sanuki udon is the udon of Kagawa, the old province of Sanuki, and the people there are especially fond of it: Kagawa has more udon and soba restaurants per head than any other prefecture and uses more wheat for udon than anywhere in Japan. Surprisingly, specialist udon shops were rare even in Takamatsu until the mid-1960s, when Kagawa's own style of self-service shop appeared; shops with a menu of several dishes followed from around 1970. Sanuki udon is often cited as Japan's most successful regional food brand, and in 2011 the prefecture launched its “Udon Prefecture” campaign.

This page is mapped to Takamatsu, about 700 m from Kawaramachi Station, where it sits beside other sights: Takamatsu Castle is about 0.9 km away in a straight line, Port of Takamatsu 1.3 km and Ritsurin Garden 1.4 km. We have not checked individual shops.
