Our guide

Naegi Castle, in what is now the city of Nakatsugawa, Gifu, was the administrative centre of the Naegi Domain of the Tōyama clan. It was also called Kasumi-ga-jō, the Misty Castle, and Akakabe Castle, “red-wall castle”, because its walls were not white like those of many Japanese castles but made of reddish clay. The ruins have been a National Historic Site since 1981.
