Our guide

Nukisaki Shrine, in the Ichinomiya area of the city of Tomioka, Gunma, was the ichinomiya of the former Kōzuke Province. It is one of only three shrines in Japan where visitors enter from above and walk down to the shrine; the other two are Udo Shrine in Miyazaki and Kusakabe Yoshimi Shrine in Kumamoto. It also appears on the “yu” card of Jōmo Karuta. Its main festival is held every year on 15 March.

Jōshū-Ichinomiya Station on the Jōshin Line is about 600 m away in a straight line, and Tomioka Silk Mill about 2.7 km.
