Our guide

Nakatsu Gorge is a scenic gorge on the Nakatsu River, a tributary of the upper Niyodo River, in the town of Niyodogawa, Kōchi. Full of cliffs, huge boulders, waterfalls and pools, it is the heart of the Nakatsu Gorge Prefectural Natural Park, designated in 1958.

A walking trail of a little over 2 km follows the valley. Along it are Uryū Falls, 20 m high and chosen for its grandeur as No. 31 of the 88 Views of Shikoku, a stone pillar about 8 m tall, Momiji Falls and Ryūgū Pool. There is also a hot-spring lodge, and the gorge is known for its autumn colours around November.

We have not checked the trail's condition or a public-transport route, so look for local information before you go.
