Our guide

The Kakita River flows through the town of Shimizu in Shizuoka, a tributary of the Kano River. At only 1.2 km it is the shortest Class 1 river in Japan. Most of its water comes from springs fed by rain and snowmelt on Mount Fuji, so it stays at about 15 °C all year, and it is the only place where the water plant Mishima-baikamo grows. The area around the springs is protected as Kakita River Park by the town, and the river is counted, with the Nagara and Shimanto, among Japan's three clearest rivers.

Mishima-Hirokōji Station on the Izuhakone Railway is about 1.7 km away in a straight line, and Mishima Taisha about 2.4 km.
