The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, commonly called the Genbaku Dome or Atomic Bomb Dome, was originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. It was a structure that remained standing in the area around the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 — three days before the bombing of Nagasaki and nine days before Japan's surrender ended the Second World War.
The ruin is a memorial to the more than 140,000 people killed by the bomb, and it is kept permanently as a preserved ruin, a reminder of what nuclear weapons do. It is part of Peace Memorial Park, about 300 m away, and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1996.
Genbaku Dome-mae tram stop is about 50 m away.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial (広島平和記念碑, Hiroshima Heiwa Kinenhi), originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, and now commonly called the Genbaku Dome, Atomic Bomb Dome or A-Bomb Dome (原爆ドーム, Genbaku Dōmu), is part of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
