Our guide

The Hells of Beppu are a group of hot springs in the onsen town of Beppu that are for looking at, not bathing in; they are called jigoku, “hells”. Together they are a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty.

There are seven hells, and a combined ticket covers them all; it is sold at each one, so buy it at the first you visit. They are open every day from 8:00 to 17:00. The bathing side of the town is on the Beppu Onsen page. We have not checked a public-transport route between the hells.
