Our guide
Suwa Taisha, historically also called Suwa Shrine or Suwa Daimyōjin, is a group of Shinto shrines in Nagano Prefecture. It is the ichinomiya, the leading shrine, of the former Shinano Province, and is considered one of the oldest shrines in existence: the Nihon Shoki implies it was already standing in the late 7th century.
Because it is a group of shrines rather than one site, check which of them you want to visit and plan the journey on the map; we have not checked a public-transport route. Takashima Castle is about 4.7 km from the point this page is mapped to.
