Our guide

Kakunodate Castle, also called Asakura Castle or Ryūgasaki Castle, was a mountaintop castle in Kakunodate, Akita. Its history can be traced to 1590, when Tozawa Moriyasu was given the area, though it may be older. It was demolished in 1620 under a shogunate order that each domain keep only one castle, and only ruins remain on Mount Furushiro.

Kakunodate Samurai District is about 500 m away, and Kakunodate Station about 1.7 km in a straight line. We have not checked the paths up the mountain.
