Our guide

Kōraku-en, in Okayama, is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, with Kenrokuen Garden and Kairaku-en. It was laid out in 1700 by Ikeda Tsunamasa, lord of Okayama, and reached its present form in 1863; Zhu Zhiyu, one of the great Confucian scholars of Ming China and Edo Japan, helped with its redesign.

Okayama Castle is only about 0.3 km away in a straight line, and the castle offers a combined ticket that covers the garden too — the obvious way to see both. Shiroshita Station is about 550 m away. We have not checked the garden's own opening hours.
