Our guide

Katsunuma, now part of the city of Kōshū in Yamanashi, is where grape growing and winemaking in Japan began. Vineyards and wineries line the slopes of the old town. In 1877 a wine company founded here sent two young men to France to learn winemaking, and grapes and wine are still its trade.

Katsunumabudōkyō Station on the Chūō Main Line is about 1.9 km from the point this page is mapped to, in a straight line. We have not checked which wineries take visitors, so look for local information before you go.
