Fukuoka Tower, 234 m tall, stands in the Momochihama area on land reclaimed from Hakata Bay, and it is the tallest seaside tower in Japan. Its top observation deck, at 123 m, looks out in every direction and is busiest at sunset. It was designed by Nikken Sekkei and finished in 1989.
It stays open until 22:00 (last entry 21:30, earlier when crowded), so an evening visit is easy. From Hakata Station, Nishitetsu bus 306 leaves from stand 6 at the Hakata Bus Terminal; from Tenjin, buses W1 or 302 leave from stand 1A at Tenjin Bus Center-mae — for either, get off at TNC Hōsō Kaikan-mae or Fukuoka Tower Minamiguchi. Ohori Park is about 2.4 km away in a straight line.

What this place is
Fukuoka Tower (福岡タワー, Fukuoka Tawā) is a 234-metre (768 ft) tall tower located in the Momochihama area of Fukuoka, Japan. It is the tallest seaside tower in Japan. The highest observation deck at 123 metres has a 360° view of the surrounding area, being most visited at sunset. Fukuoka Tower was finished in 1989, taking a total of 14 months to build at a cost of ¥6 billion (roughly equivalent US$45 million in 1989). It was designed by Nikken Sekkei and constructed on a reclaimed land out of Hakata Bay.

Getting there by public transport
- From Hakata Station: from the Hakata Bus Terminal (turn right out of the Hakata exit), Nishitetsu bus 306 from stand 6 to “TNC Hōsō Kaikan-mae” or “Fukuoka Tower Minamiguchi”.
- From Tenjin: Nishitetsu bus W1 or 302 from Tenjin Bus Center-mae stand 1A to the same stops.
- Or the subway Airport Line to Nishijin Station, then walk or take a Nishitetsu bus to Fukuoka Tower.
